With Tanner Hudson headed to IR and done for the season with a torn pec suffered in the Cincinnati Bengals’ win over the Dolphins, the offense is down one reliable tight end who has proven to be a trusted safety valve for Joe Burrow. While there’s no shortage of mouths to feed on the Bengals’ offense, they are down one tight end, and they just happen to have a tight end from this year’s draft on the roster.
Former Texas tight end Jack Endries fell to the Bengals in the seventh round of this Spring’s
draft and made the 53-man roster. He hasn’t taken any offensive snaps so far this season, only making a handful of appearances on special teams, but he caught six passes for 43 yards and a touchdown throughout the preseason.
With Erick All not quite clicking, Endries has a real chance to shine now that Hudson is done for the year.
Here’s what else is going on:
Bengals RT Amarius Mims calls out major names after his unique problem pops up yet again in win over Dolphins
“It’s crazy because that was the second I pair busted open, but that was my first time wearing the shoe,” Mims told WLWT’s Jaron May after the game. “Like I just got these in literally before we left for Miami, before we got on the plane, and I wore them. I looked down, man. My shoes are talking, man. My big toe. I see my big toe. I said, ‘Oh God, man, it’s not good.’
The Bengals fed the hot hand out of the backfield on Sunday in Miami, opting to give Samaje Perine 14 carries to Chase Brown’s 13. It’s close to being even, but Brown came into the season with a lock on RB1, and seemed to be the guy through the first couple games. Possibly not so much now, though, as Bengals’ offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher sees the situation as more fluid as they begin to run out of shotgun more, which suits Perine.
Why the Bengals’ run game – and RB carry distribution – could be changing
“I wouldn’t want to tackle (Perine),” Karras said. “When we get into our gun 11 (personnel) runs, Chase and Samaje both bring unique stuff where Chase can find a hole and hit it at 20 miles per hour. Samaje, even if you don’t get to the linebacker, he is running through it and going to take him 2, 3 yards to tackle him.”
It wasn’t too terribly long ago when Jake Browning kept the Bengals’ playoff hopes alive while Burrow rehabbed from injury. Now Joe Flacco is the backup quarterback and Browning has a new home in Los Angeles. Browning has signed with the Chargers, who’ve started the 2026 season with an 0-5 record. Is Justin Herbert on notice?
