Florida State wide receiver Duce Robinson spoke after practice yesterday, saying that while Saturday was a step in the right direction, there’s still room to grow:
We’ve got to capitalize on our opportunities when we get them. We did that a lot on Saturday, but there was still so much we left on the table. So many missed opportunities, so many home run chances that we just didn’t connect on, didn’t make. And so I think that’s going to be our main focus going forward.
Quarterbacks coach Austin Tucker
also spoke Tuesday, touching on quarterback Ashton Daniels’ performance against Alabama and this season:
I think obviously there’s things he’s disappointed from the last game. There’s probably nobody more disappointed than himself and and some of some of the plays that he wants back. There’s great decisions throughout the game. I told him he made a lot of great great plays. He made a lot of plays just playing the position and managing the game, but there’s a couple plays that he wants to have back. And that’s part of it. That’s part of his growth. And so we continue to meet with him, obviously, watch film, study, find the things in his games that we can improve. And so he’s dedicated to that. And that’s who he is.
How would you grade Daniels’ performance under center for the Seminoles so far this season? Through three games, he’s 46-for-79 (58.2%) for 704 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions alongside 108 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

A calm week in Tallahassee this week – just two events on the calendar.
Florida State cross country student-athlete Rylee Blade was named the ACC Women’s Runner of the Week
“Rylee did a great job in the opener,” said FSU head coach Matt Kane. “Coach had a plan for a nice pack run, and she followed that to perfection. I’m looking forward to this week as she gets in some tougher competition.”
Blade started off the season strong as the sophomore took charge of Apalachee Regional Park after leading the women’s 6k to capture her second career win with a time of 20:39.2, setting up the Seminoles for a team victory with a nearly perfect score of 17 points.
“Sweeping the men’s and women’s individual team title was an incredible way to start our season,” said women’s head Cody Halsey. “I’m proud of Rylee for stepping up, getting the win and leading our women at home on our course. She’s in a great place fitness-wise and I’m excited about what’s ahead for her and this team. They have big goals this year and I’m looking forward to seeing us continue to build momentum as we get into the tougher part of our schedule.”
Florida State women’s tennis junior Mary Boyce Deatherage and freshman JoAnna Kennedy, competing in singles and doubles, wrapped up competition at the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday:
Deatherage finished 1-1 in singles, falling in her opening pre-qualifying match before bouncing back with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory over Alabama’s Addison Bowman in the consolation round.
Kennedy competed in the qualifying singles draw, earning her first collegiate victory as a Seminole on Monday with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Oklahoma’s Laura Brunkel. She fell in a hard-fought second-round match to conclude her singles competition.
Deatherage and Kennedy also teamed up in pre-qualifying doubles, earning a 7-5, 6-7(4), 10-8 victory over a Texas duo in the opening round. The pair fell in the second round of the draw.
The Seminoles will return to action Friday at the Bedford Cup in Tampa.
Florida State volleyball (5-5) begins conference play Wednesday when it hosts Miami (2-7) inside Tully Gymnasium:
The Seminoles have won their last five conference openers and 19 of their last 20 first home conference matches dating back to 2006.
Florida State leads Miami 42-26-1 in the all-time series dating back to 1970. The Seminoles have won three of the last four meetings against the Hurricanes in Tallahassee.
Senior outside hitter Kyleene Filimaua recorded her fifth double-double of the season against No. 10 Florida. She currently ranks sixth in the ACC in both points (178.5) and kills (149).
Sophomore opposite hitter Lexie Mason recorded a season-high 10 kills against No. 10 Florida, becoming one of four Seminoles to reach double figures in kills.
Junior middle blocker Delaney Ewing ranks second in the ACC with a .407 hitting percentage.
After starting the season 0-7, Miami enters Wednesday’s match having won two straight, defeating LSU and Tulsa last weekend.
