The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced the inactives list for their Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The following Eagles players WILL NOT PLAY: Jonathan Greenard, Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Drew Kendall, Marcus Epps and Hollywood Brown.
Greenard was ruled questionable to play despite missing practice all week due to an ankle injury. The Eagles put him through a pregame workout on Sunday morning but they ultimately decided to hold the veteran pass rusher out. Greenard has only
been available for two of the Eagles’ five games so far this season. In his absence, the Eagles will roll with Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, Arnold Ebiketie, and A.J. Epenesa as their four edge defenders.
Barkley, Smith, Kendall, Epps, and Brown were all ruled out on the Eagles’ final injury report.
With Barkley out, the Eagles have three running backs active for this game: Will Shipley, Dameon Pierce, and Carson Steele. Shipley figures to lead the backfield in touches but don’t sleep on Pierce showing some juice. I don’t think we’ll see Steele touch the ball much.
Smitty and Brown being out means the Eagles have five active receivers: Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper, Makai Lemon, Elijah Moore, and Britain Covey.
Kendall’s absence means the Eagles will be starting Jake Majors, who was called up from the practice squad, at center. He’s making his first-ever start in his first-ever NFL regular season game.
Michael Carter II will replace Epps as the Eagles’ safety in nickel packages when Cooper DeJean shifts to the slot.
John Ojukwu is making his Eagles regular season debut after being temporarily elevated from the practice squad for this game.
Cole Payton is active for the first time in his career. He’d normally be the emergency third quarterback but the Eagles already ruled out enough players where they can just keep Payton active. We’ll see if he gets in on special teams at all. Otherwise, he’s the third QB option behind Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee now that Andy Dalton is gone.
