According to a report from Tz journalist Mano Bonke (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich star Lennart Karl experienced some difficulty during his rehab session on Thursday morning:
During today’s rehab session, Lennart Karl frequently grabbed his back while jogging, grimacing in pain. Karl (and Gnabry) are still under controlled workload and are behind Musiala, Davies and Saibari in their rehab. Club and player don’t want to take any unnecessary risks with Karl to avoid aggravating his injury if they
put him under too much strain too soon. He’s not expected to be available for the Super Cup against Dortmund.
BFW Analysis
While it could be accurate that Karl gave off signals of distress or even pain during the session, Bayern Munich fans should be cautious about reading too much into this report on Karl’s rehabilitation. While seeing a player grab his back or show discomfort is understandably concerning, rehab sessions are designed to test limits, monitor reactions, and gradually increase workload. A controlled recovery does not automatically mean a setback or long-term issue.
Bayern Munich’s medical staff have every incentive to protect one of the club’s brightest young talents and avoid rushing him back. Missing the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Borussia Dortmund would be frustrating for the youngster, but the priority will remain ensuring that Karl returns fully fit rather than risking a bigger injury by accelerating his timeline.
At this point, Bayern Munich has the advantage of having enough depth to compensate for the absence of the young attacker. Unlike last season, where players like Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, Manuel Neuer, and Konrad Laimer all rushed back into action too early with lingering effects of their respective injuries, the squad’s depth for 2026/27 should give Karl — and the club — the assurance that he can take as long as he needs to heal.
