It’s the rematch the NBA’s scheduling gods clearly had circled in red ink.
The Timberwolves, fresh off their opener in Portland where Anthony Edwards casually decided, “Okay fine, I’ll win this myself”,
now head to Los Angeles for their first real marquee test of the season. Yes, Portland was stressful. Yes, Portland was sloppy. But tonight is serious. This is Luka Doncic. This is the Lakers. This is the franchise Minnesota exorcised from their soul six months ago after twenty years of purple-and-gold nightmares.
The Lakers already lost their opener to Golden State, which means two things: 1) They’re pissed, 2) They’re desperate. That is rarely a fun equation for whoever walks into Crypto.com Arena, especially after what the Wolves did to them last spring.
You know the stakes. Minnesota eliminated the Lakers 4–1 in what felt like a generational exorcism. Ant ascending. Randle mauling people. Rudy erasing lives at the rim. The Lakers, cooked. Fanbase, euphoric. Beautiful stuff.
But that’s exactly what makes tonight dangerous.
This is their payback game.
This is their pride game.
This is Luka’s “nah, not again” game.
Minnesota cannot waltz in like they did in the Moda Center and assume they can flip the switch in the fourth. If they want this, they have to start how they finished in Portland, by swarming defensively, attacking early in the shot clock, and taking every minute seriously.
