The Tennessee Titans will play their preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings on Friday. It’ll offer Mike Borgonzi and Brian Callahan their final opportunity to assess their offseason roster before submitting their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday afternoon. With roster cut-down day looming, we broke down all the positions and players that have something riding on Friday.
RB
Does Tyjae Spears begin the season on IR? He would miss a minimum of four contests. It feels like a realistic possibility,
with Spears nursing a high-ankle sprain. Does that make Julius Chestnut and Kalel Mullings the second and third running backs on the initial 53-man roster? Jordan Mims and Jermar Jefferson have impressed throughout the preseason.
WR
Do the Titans keep seven receivers? Bryce Oliver (WR6) is a lock. James Proche II appears to be in pole position for that spot. Jha’Quan Jackson remains in the mix via special teams, and Xavier Restrepo is a favorite of Cam Ward.
OT
Oli Udoh has played as the swing tackle. Jaelyn Duncan, John Ojukwu, and Brendon Crenshaw-Dickson are the other reserve tackles. The Titans can probably justify keeping two of these four. Blake Hance, who has inside-outside versatility, could also have a say.
EDGE
Jaylen Harrell, Ali Gaye, and Desmond Evans are competing for the fifth and final roster spot at EDGE. This feels like a prime position for the Titans to churn with a waiver claim. Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, and Jadeveon Clowney are among the veteran free agents.
DT
James Lynch is a lock as the fourth defensive tackle. Four players are competing for DT5: Carlos Watkins, Timmy Horne, Isaiah Raikes, and Cam Horsley. The Titans could initially keep one of them, and then search the waiver wire for an upgrade.
LB
Are there more than three linebackers on the Titans that are roster-worthy? James Williams, Cedric Gray, and Cody Barton. Anfernee Orji had a season-ending injury. Otis Reese and David Gbenda were waived. The Titans could make multiple claims here.
CB
Gabe Jeudy-Lally feels like the sixth cornerback. L’Jarius Sneed has been activated from the PUP and returned to practice in a limited capacity. Perhaps cornerback is another position the Titans will look to strengthen via a waiver claim.
