Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about everything on Mizzou Hoops
Mark Mitchell is carrying Mizzou Basketball to an NCAA Tournament appearance. After a 23-point performance on Tuesday night vs Tennessee and 17 points on Saturday at Mississippi State — Mitchell was recognized by the league.
On Monday, he was named SEC Player of the Week. More on MUTigers.com.
Mitchell has led the Tigers throughout the 2025-26 season as Mizzou has won six of their last eight contests. In 29 contests overall, Mitchell is averaging
a team-best 17.4 points, 3.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game. He is aiming to become just the second Tiger in school history to lead the Tigers in all three statistics, while he is one of eight players in the nation with 500 points, 150 rebounds and 100 assists this season.
Well-deserved from Mitchell. More discussion on his SEC Player of the Week honor over at RockM+.
Mizzou (20-9, 10-6 SEC) has moved off of the NCAA Tournament bubble — and the Tigers are now closing in on a Top 25 ranking four spots outside of the poll.
Per the latest bracketology projections, Mizzou is a 9 seed according to The Field of 68 and CBS Sports.
There’s an opportunity for Mizzou to improve their standing and perhaps earn a double bye in the SEC Tournament heading into the final week of the regular season. It starts later tonight at Oklahoma (6:00 p.m. CST tip-off on ESPNU).

Early season baseball returns are always a little funky as teams sort themselves out in non-conference play, but Mizzou is putting together a dominant run against the early opponents on its schedule. After sweeping a double-header on Saturday, the Tigers ran their win streak to 8 games with a weekend sweep of North Dakota State. They’re now 10-2 on the season, getting the 10th in somewhat dramatic fashion:
Regardless of the strength of schedule, the baseball Tigers are hot!
Still, it’s a good win in Starkville because it’s emphatic. It made a statement.
Mizzou Basketball made their case as an NCAA Tournament team with a blowout win over Mississippi State.
We’ve got two more new sports this week! Photos from softball’s game against Wichita State and baseball’s game against NDSU on Friday mark both teams’ first time being featured. Women’s basketball hosted Oklahoma at home on Sunday and fell 84-78 to the Sooners. Here are the photos of the week.
With men’s hoops on the road, plenty of good pics featuring diamond sports and WBB.
- Over at Rock M+: We’ve got plenty of football, basketball, and Olympic Sports coverage.
