Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has given an interview to Sport Bild and spoke about the recent situation with Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The Catalans brought in Joan Garcia from Espanyol over the summer and told
Ter Stegen he would no longer be first choice.
The Germany international wasn’t happy with the situation but subsequently underwent surgery on a back issue that has ruled out him for several months.
Flick has now held his hands up and said his own communication with the goalkeeper could have been better.
“Has it all always gone so well in terms of communication? I think there is a lot to improve, also from my side,” he told Sport Bild, stressing. “He is a top goalkeeper and he gets support from all of us.”
Flick then made it clear that Garcia is the future of Barcelona but is looking forward to welcoming Ter Stegen back into the fold when he’s fit again.
“You have a very young, talented goalkeeper in Joan García, who is at a very good level, and we all decided together that this should be the future of Barcelona. So it was clear what our approach was,” he added.
“It’s important to me that Marc and the club have come closer and have really sought communication. For me, it’s important that Marc comes back now. He’s a top goalkeeper and he’s getting all the support from us so that he can play at his level again.”
Ter Stegen isn’t due back until the end of the year and has been tipped to move away on loan in January in a bid to play regularly before World Cup 2026.
