The North Carolina Tar Heels are back in Chapel Hill to host Pittsburgh. UNC is looking to bounce back from a tough road loss to Miami, while Pitt limps into the Smith Center on a four-game losing streak and is tied for last in the ACC with a 2-10 conference record.
The biggest news heading into Saturday is a devastating injury update for the Tar Heels. Standout freshman Caleb Wilson suffered a broken bone in his left hand during the Miami game, and there is no official timetable for his return. Without
Wilson, head coach Hubert Davis will deploy his sixth different starting lineup of the season.
A victory over the Panthers will secure Carolina’s 66th 20-win season in program history. This is the second-most among all Division I schools. It will also mark Davis’s fifth 20-win season in five seasons as head coach of the Tar Heels.
UNC is on a 14-game home winning streak, and a win today would mark its first 15-game home streak in over eight years.
Carolina earned a one-point win over Pitt last season in Chapel Hill. This was an important win because the Panthers were on a three-game winning streak in the Smith Center, the second-longest win streak by an opponent in the history of the building.
While UNC holds an 18-9 all-time record against Pitt, the Panthers have been a thorn in their side in recent years. Pitt holds a 6-4 edge over Carolina in the last 10 games.
Bottom of the ACC or not, the Panthers always bring it against the Tar Heels. Let’s see how UNC reacts in the wake of a bad loss to Miami and the Wilson injury news.
