With Kenan Yildiz out injured these past few weeks, Francisco Conceição has been looked upon to be the creative leader in attack for Luciano Spalletti and Juventus. The results, while a small sample size, has been mixed, with the diminutive Portuguese winger having some strong performances but also some trademark frustrating ones.
Regardless of how Chico has played on the whole this season, it appears Juventus are satisfied with his performances and want to try and lock him in to a long-term contract
just as they’ve done with Yildiz.
According to Tuttosport on Friday, Juventus are set to meet with Conceição’s agent, Jorge Mendes, later this year and begin contract talks to keep the 23-year-old winger in Turin. Considering that Conceição is already signed through 2030 following his permanent move to Juventus last summer, it would not add a whole lot of new time onto the deal he is currently signed to. However, it would be another sign that Juventus view Conceição as a player that they will try to build around in the coming years as they hope to actually go on an upward trajectory under the front office leadership of Giovanni Carnevali and Frederic Massara.
Or, in a way, a longer contract could be the best way for Juve’s front office to tell potential suitors “You gotta pay more now!” if they are to try and sign Conceição in the next few transfer windows.
Conceição currently earns just under €4 million net. You have to believe that with a new contract that number would go over €4 million and push him close to some of the top earners at the club.
Juventus’ new front office clearly admires Conceição just as the last one did when they signed him outright from Porto last summer. Or the one that initially brought him to Turin in the summer of 2024 on a season-long loan deal. And for some of his time, he’s shown to a very talented player. But he’s also a player who is still a flawed one — which is the hang up for a lot of people when it comes to either over-reliance on him in the final third or just the fact that paying somebody that much each season would be a potential gamble.
So far this season, with Yildiz mostly sidelined due to a broken bone in his foot, Conceição has been the one Spalletti looks to be the creative force on the right wing. He has had his moments without a doubt, including a goal in last weekend’s win over Atalanta. However, he’s also been somewhat wasteful, and has recorded a single assist in Juventus’ first five Serie A fixtures. He played 30 minutes off the bench in Juve’s Europa League opener.
Juventus committing more financial resources — at least over the next year or two — toward Conceição means they believe he can be a productive piece opposite of Yildiz in attack. There may be other attacking options now on the roster based on who returned to Turin and who was signed this summer, but Conceição’s status as the main man on the right flank appears to be rather unquestioned these days. A new contract would only confirm that notion.
Because it is Tuttosport and they love a good rumor that involves a potential transfer fee if there ever is one, they also noted that Juventus would never consider an offer of less than €60 million if they were to consider parting ways with Conceição. He has been linked off and on this past summer with interest from Premier League clubs Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, according to Tuttosport.
