Floyd Mayweather was supposed to rematch Manny Pacquiao on Sept. 19 at Sphere in Las Vegas.
That wasn’t promoter hyperbole or one of those “sources have indicated” tweets, it was actually announced by Netflix back in February. But hall of fame rock band Eagles recently booked Sept. 19 at Sphere as part of its “Sin City” residency, confirming this report that May-Pac 2 was in jeopardy.
“ESPN has reached out to representatives for Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Netflix over the past several
weeks for an update on the status of the fight but have yet to hear from any of the parties regarding a venue change or if the fight would still take place as a professional boxing match,” Andreas Hale wrote for ESPN.
In addition, we still don’t have a date or venue for Mayweather’s follow-up cash grab against Mike Tyson, which lost its original date back in April. There’s also a third bout expected in Athens against some guy you never heard of and don’t care about, likely booked to pay down Mayweather’s outstanding tax debt.
Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) was last seen sleepwalking his way through back-to-back fights against John Gotti III, part of his exhibition retirement tour that still hasn’t generated enough to pay this tab. As for Pacquiao (62-8-3), he recently ended his retirement to draw Mario Barrios last July in Las Vegas.
