Life is truly amazing. As the Saints organization attempts to rise from the ashes on the wings of its young quarterback, Tyler Shough, fans still get to celebrate the generational career of the quarterback who set the bar for the franchise, Drew Brees.
Drew Brees is arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever grace the football field. From heroic moments in his inaugural home game in 2006 to winning Super Bowl 44, he accomplished what many within the fanbase once believed was far fetched. But
Brees made the impossible possible. He made the unimaginable tangible.
He broke records, reset standards, and achieved accomplishments that many never even considered. Brees retired with the most 5,000 yard passing seasons in NFL history. The next five quarterbacks all have just two seasons each.
Brees was able to accomplish all of this despite being told his size did not meet NFL standards for success. And he did it in a place where sustained success once felt as fleeting as a summer fling.
The culmination of Brees’ career, being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot, was something everyone felt was inevitable. Seeing his face light up as he received his gold jacket for the first time shows you something deeper. The gold on the jacket was not bright enough. The smile, the emotion, and the love in that room, as his dream came to fruition, outshined it and always will.
Brees becoming an adopted son of New Orleans, the love he and his family continue to share for the city, and the lasting impact he still has on the organization and team are things that will transcend time.
His enshrinement into Canton will immortalize him for his accomplishments on the field and for the impact he made off it and within the community of New Orleans.
