The Los Angeles Rams will look to bounce back in Week 2 when they face the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. For keys to victory in Week 1, I mentioned how the Rams needed to run, run, and run some more on offense. They ran the ball in the first half, but they didn’t stay committed to the running game in the second half. As for the defense, I stated that the unit needed to limit Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey received a limited number of touches but when he touched the ball, he gained valuable
yards.
For Los Angeles, there are two areas that could ultimately determine whether the team moves to 1-1 or 0-2. Here are the offensive and defensive keys to victory for the Rams heading into Monday night’s matchup.
Offensive Key to Victory: 3rd Down Success
Earlier this week, I wrote about the Rams necessity to win on third down week-to-week. Well guess what, the best way for the offense to get on track is keeping the ball in its hands. If we want to see the 2025 version of Matthew Stafford, getting into a rhythm is vital. He will only be able to find that rhythm if the offense is moving the sticks.
The Rams’ offense needs to make third down a strength rather than an obstacle.
Defensive Key to Victory: Make the Giants a passing team
New York demonstrated in Week 1 that it can control the game with a combination of efficient offense and a strong rushing attack. The Rams cannot take four quarters of physical bruising from Cam Skattebo and Patrick Ricard. The defensive line is also not created to take on those type of plays over and over. They are much more effective getting to pin their ears back and get after the quarterback.
Jaxson Dart has made growth in Year 2 but he has yet to be tested and evaluated when his rushing attack is neutralized. The Rams defensive front must slow it down and test the second year quarterback.
