Meet me in St. Louis! The Kentucky Wildcats are the No. 7 seed in St. Louis, part of the Midwest Region in the NCAA Tournament. They will take on the No. 10 seed Santa Clara Broncos on Friday.
If Kentucky wins Friday, they will likely face No. 2 seed Iowa State (unless No. 15 seed Tennessee State pulls off the upset) on Sunday. Should Kentucky advance to the Sweet 16, they will play at the United Center in Chicago the following Friday and Sunday.
Santa Clara is 26-8 overall and 15-3 in the West Coast
Conference. They finished third in the conference standings, winning two games in the West Coast Conference Tournament before falling 79-68 to Gonzaga in the Championship Game.
The Broncos are led by Christian Hammond, who averages 15.8 points per game. They have three players in double figures, also Elijah Mahi and Allen Graves. In addition, while they don’t have any player with more than 90 assists, they have three players with 90 assists. The Broncos average 16.8 assists per game.
Head coach Herb Sendek is a name Big Blue Nation is very familiar with. Sendek was an assistant on Rick Pitino’s staff in 1993, when the Cats advanced to the Final Four. In addition, Sendek has won a Coach of the Year award in four different conferences, including this year in the West Coast Conference.
This will be the ninth team Sendek has led to the Bif Dance.
