Let’s recap the week that was for the Orange Olympic sports.
Field Hockey (5-1, 0-0)
The Orange finally made their home debut and they christened the brand new blue turf with a 3-2 shootout win over UMass Lowell. Sammie Goin scored the opening goal and then clinched the win in the shootout.
The Orange will open ACC play next weekend when they travel to #9 Virginia and #4 Wake Forest.
Women’s Soccer (3-5-2, 0-3)
Syracuse dropped both games this week, losing 2-0 at Clemson and 1-0 at home against Virginia
Tech. The Orange have not scored a goal in the last five games. Defense hasn’t been a problem as Syracuse has allowed 9 goals in 10 games, but they need to find a way to generate offense to help goalie Maya Naimoli, who sits 3rd in the ACC in save percentage (.825).
The Orange will host Pittsburgh on Thursday night.
Volleyball (5-4, 0-0)
The Orange split their weekend contests in the Syracuse Invitational. Syracuse beat FDU 3-1 on Friday but were swept by Buffalo on Sunday.
Syracuse hosts Louisville and Notre Dame next weekend as they open ACC play.
Men’s Soccer (6-3, 0-2)
Syracuse got two clean sheets from Juan Martinez-Bastidas to beat Colgate (3-0) and Le Moyne (2-0). Martinez-Bastidas has not allowed a goal in his four starts so we’ll see if he draws in for an upcoming ACC game.
Syracuse will head to Notre Dame to face the Irish on Friday night.
Cross-Country
The Orange were off this weekend but we want to congratulate Connell Alford and Kiera Rogan who were named ACC Performers of the Week last week.
Syracuse’s next race is at Princeton on September 26th.
