It has been a busy recruiting cycle for Michigan State in the backcourt.
Tom Izzo has made the point guard position a priority with eyes on keeping the position in good standing. The Spartan head coach has been working to remain balanced as well and that shows with his latest offer.
Earlier this week, Michigan State offered 6-foot-10 center Kamsi Awaka. The four-star announced his final five teams on Thursday and the Spartans were in the mix.
The four-star narrowed his list to Michigan State, Arizona,
UConn, Florida, and Michigan.
Awaka is an elite prospect out of Blair Academy in New Jersey. He is currently ranked as the No. 1 player in the Garden State and No. 8 center nationally, per 247Sports. Awaka is the No. 52 player overall. With Michigan State getting an initial offer out on Tuesday, it is telling that the team made the final cut. Awaka has not scheduled visits to this point.
Awaka has become known on the recruiting circuit as an elite rebounder and defender. At 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds, Awaka has the body to compete in the Big Ten. He has shown an ability to be a willing passer with strong hands who can be effective off the pick-and-roll.
In July, Awaka played in the 17U All-Circuit in the adidas 3Stripes Select Basketball Championships. He averaged 14.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks in five games. Awaka has the ability to put the ball in the basket but is not known as a natural scorer down low. He has shown off ability in the post but has stood out defensively.
Izzo continues to attempt to build the strongest 2027 recruiting class possible. Awaka would be a major get in the frontcourt.
