The Miami Dolphins took a ten-point lead into halftime against their division rivals, the New England Patriots, on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep the momentum rolling in the second half — ultimately losing the contest to last year’s Super Bowl runner-ups by a score of 24-19.
A big reason why Miami was able to get an early lead against Drake Maye and company was the play of the Dolphins’ defense. Through the first two quarters of Sunday’s clash, Miami gave up just three
points while consistently causing New England’s quarterback discomfort in the pocket. One of the main contributors to Miami’s pass rush was EDGE player Chop Robinson.
Miami Dolphins Week Eight MVP – EDGE Chop Robinson
Robinson becomes the first Dolphins player to win my weekly MVP award twice this season.
Robinson had eight pressures and two quarterback sacks on the day. His 47.1% pressure rate against New England, according to Hussam Patel of the 5 Reasons Sports Network, was the second-highest pressure rate of any NFL defender in a single game this season. Miami’s young pass rusher now leads the National Football League in pressure rate with a 26.6% mark for the entire year.
Robinson is playing on the third year of his rookie contract, giving the Dolphins club control through next season, at least. From there, Miami’s new general manager, Jon-Eric Sullivan, will have the ability to give Robinson the fifth-year option since Chop is a former first round pick of the club. If Robinson continues to maintain this level of production throughout the remainder of the season, don’t be surprised of Sullivan looks to get a deal done a year early instead of waiting on the price to rise.
