Rutgers Athletics has launched “The Scarlet Table,” a podcast hosted by Rutgers radio announcer Chris Carlin dedicated to giving Rutgers fans a glimpse behind the scenes of the athletic department.
The
first episode featured Rutgers President William Tate IV and Athletic Director Keli Zinn.
At the beginning of the podcast, Tate discussed what it was like adjusting to the Rutgers community. He talked about how everyone wants to win and how that was no different from where he came from. He stated that he wanted Zinn to come with him to Rutgers because he knew she wasn’t afraid to get to work. He is confident now that they have a plan; all they need is for people to get behind them to win.
When talking about the Rutgers GameDay atmosphere and the blackout game in particular, Zinn discussed how the atmosphere was amazing, and the light show wave earned them respect from different people around college football.
She also discussed gameday operations in general. More importantly, she discussed the issues with the traffic and how they have experts coming in for the Oregon game to assess the traffic pattern and how they might better combat it. They will also be looking at how to get fans into the game quicker, so they are not waiting as long in lines outside the stadium.
Zinn also used this opportunity to talk about Rutgers’ new in-house NIL foundations like RNIL. Tate discussed the fact that since Rutgers is in one of the best media markets in the country, there is a high upside for companies that want to sponsor one of their players simply because of where the university is located.
One thing that is worth noting about this administration is that they seem very open about what they do and how they plan to do it. In years past, the Rutgers administration and athletics kept things as close to the vest as possible.
