Tennessee added to its class of 2027 puzzle on Wednesday, landing a commitment from cornerback Kamauri Whitfield. The 5-10, 170 pound prospect is out of Orlando, Florida, currently playing for The First
Academy.
Per 247Sports, Whitfield is a highly ranked three-star prospect, checking in at 425th overall in the class. He’s the 42nd ranked cornerback in the class and the 45th ranked player in the state of Florida. Whitfield also held offers from Florida, Auburn, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma and Illinois. He picked up his Tennessee offer back in June after attending a camp with the Volunteers.
Tennessee had Whitfield on campus over the weekend for the Arkansas matchup which sealed the deal. Whitfield has noted that he’s manned the nickel spot this season, and that would seem to be his natural fit at the next level with Tennessee.
‘Bam’ Whitfield joins linebacker JP Peace as the second member of Tennessee’s class of 2027, which is obviously just getting started. Tennessee’s class of 2026 remains ranked eighth nationally, loaded up top with three five-star prospects. Tennessee currently has three cornerback prospects in that 2026 group — four-star Zay Anderson and three-stars Jamyan Theodore and Javonte Smith.
