The Notre Dame Fighting Irish look to make a gigantic recruiting splash this week, and it all starts with an actual giant. During an announcement ceremony, 5-Star OL Oluwasemilore Olubobola gave his commitment to Notre Dame and its 2027 football recruiting class.
Olu (as we humbly call him) chose the Irish over his other two finalists, the Miami Hurricanes and the Texas A&M Aggies. He held other offers from all over the country including; the Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes,
and many more.
-A lean, mean and green offensive tackle with a monster ceiling given the combination of his length and twitch.
-Still very much a work in progress, but had encouraging moments during practices for the annual Under Armour All-America Game as a junior and has continued to make technical advancements.
-Bends at the knees with ease and creates extension.
-Shuffles feet to wall off run lanes or extend pockets.
-Quick to recover on the move and re-engage with assignments.
-Can find a wide base, but lacks anchor strength at this stage and needs to improve overall power output as that will allow him to be more of a bulldozer in the run game.
-Should be viewed as an athletic corner-protector that is going to have a chance to man the left side of the line on Saturdays and potentially Sundays if he keeps progressing.
-Tracking to start college well before 18th birthday, which signals that plenty of growth is still coming.
Olubobola is the 15th commitment for Notre Dame’s 2027 football recruiting class which just passed USC for 3rd nationally in the 247 Team Composite Rankings. It’s Notre Dame’s 2nd offensive tackle commitment, and the second lineman from the state of New Jersey.
The Irish continually get some of the best offensive linemen in the nation, and with Olu and James Halter, they are already off to a great start. I’m not sure how many more offensive linemen they add this cycle after adding six in the 2026 class — but my guess is around four.
Look — Notre Dame does a great job of evaluating and developing offensive line talent. Joe Rudolph might be the most underrated coach on Notre Dame’s staff, as he continually develops good offensive line play. And now the Irish get top add another 5-Star caliber player to the line, as the Irish look to become a monster during the rest of this decade and beyond.
