The National Women’s Soccer League has been steadily growing and is firmly in its expansion era with six teams entering the league since 2021 and two more set to join in 2026. Another city will be getting
a club as Arthur Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United, has reportedly ponied up a record breaking $165 million expansion fee.
The team is set to begin play in 2028 with games being hosted at Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium. Blank has invested in soccer having brought Atlanta United to MLS in 2017 and recently donated $50 million to the construction of the new US Soccer Federation headquarters in the city.
Neither Blank’s AMB Sports and Entertainment company nor the NWSL would confirm the reports, but the ownership group has been linked to expansion rumors over the years. Blank will be looking to duplicate the success around the launch of Atlanta United in 2017 when the team broke attendance records and brought home a collection of trophies in its early years.
