Florida State Seminoles transfer safety Edwin Joseph is one of a number of NCAA transfer portal visitors for the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, according to a report from OnTexasFootball.
The 6’0, 190-pounder
has two seasons of eligibility remaining and is also receiving interest from Georgia, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M.
From the same high school as 2025 running back signee Derrek Cooper — Chaminade-Madonna in Hollywood, Fla. — Joseph inked with Florida State in the 2023 recruiting class after taking official visits to Auburn, Louisville, Penn State, and South Carolina. Joseph also held offers from Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Utah, among others. By the end of the cycle, Joseph was a consensus three-star prospect ranked as the No. 329 player nationally and the No. 16 athlete, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
A productive offensive player at wide receiver before beginning to play defense prior to his senior season, Joseph appeared in three games while redshirting during the 2023 season before factoring into the rotation the following year, playing 188 snaps in 12 games and recording 13 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, and one blocked kick while playing on five special teams units for the Seminoles.
During the 2025 season, Joseph emerged as a starter, notching 37 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble, impressive production with the football in the air that reflected his background as a wide receiver. It wasn’t all positive in coverage, however, as Jospeh was credited with allowing five touchdowns, according to Pro Football Focus.
Joseph did show his versatility for Florida State, playing roughly half of his snaps in the slot, about 30 percent of his snaps in the box, 79 snaps at free safety, and another 30 snaps in the box.
So that makes Joseph a player Texas could use in multiple positions across the secondary and may not reflect how the staff currently feels about retaining redshirt junior safety Derek Williams, who could return amidst reports that Blake Gideon is coming back to Austin to rejoin the Longhorns staff.
