Last week, yours truly actually did pretty well (for a change). I managed to be correct on Kyler Murray hitting his passing yardage “over,” and I also promised you at least seven kicking points from Will Reichard, and he managed to more than double that. If only I had foreseen T.J. Hockenson as the savior of the passing game while Jauan Jennings remained on the side of a milk carton near you, it could have been a perfect week. We’ll strive for that this time around.
I’m not going to do any bets involving Justin Jefferson or Jordan Addison this week. With both of them being listed as “questionable” and likely game-time decisions (at least at the time I’m putting this together), there’s no reason for me to do that. So, I’ll just have to look in other places.
T.J. Hockenson receiving yardage: Over 36.5 (-114)
As Nic Jennings said in our Five Questions exchange earlier this week, the Saints have had difficulty stopping tight ends all season long. With the Vikings now missing the left side of their offensive line, Hockenson will likely get an opportunity to play a role in a shorter passing game, which should allow him to help carry over his momentum from the big game he had last week against Miami. He won’t slide down after every catch or anything like that, so this one seems safe.
Aaron Jones rushing yardage: Under 72.5 (-114)
According to KSTP sports reporter Chris Long, the 72 carries and 81 total touches that Jones has had in the Vikings’ first four games this season are the most that he’s had in any four-game stretch in his entire career. I know that Jordan Mason is due back after the bye, but at some point the Vikings are going to have to start regulating Jones’ workload a bit more. This could be a game where they start trying to work Demond Claiborne and/or DeeJay Dallas into things a bit more. Of the three bets I’m putting out there this week, this is probably the one I’d have the least confidence in.
Jalen Redmond to record a sack (+225)
In the other half of the Five Questions exchange I mentioned earlier, I hyped up Jalen Redmond as a player that Saints fans might not be familiar with who would likely play a major role for the Vikings on Sunday. While the Vikings have gotten to opposing quarterbacks a lot of times through the first four games already this season, Redmond has yet to join the sack fiesta. Here’s hoping that he plays a part in making me look good by notching his first one on Sunday afternoon at the Superdome.
Those are my three prop bets for this week’s game, ladies and gentlemen. Are there any that you have your eyes on for this week?
