After surrendering four runs in his short-lived start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox pitcher Sean Burke needed a quick reset. And the former Terp did just that, allowing only six runs across his last six outings.
But Burke saved his best performance for Sunday. The 6-foot-6 right-hander held a struggling Toronto Blue Jays offense without a run in nearly seven innings of work. While
he only punched out five batters, Burke was efficient with his pitch count.
That dominance is nothing new for Maryland baseball fans, though. Burke, the 2021 preseason All-Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, was instrumental in the Terps’ run to the NCAA Tournament. He pitched 71 innings with a 3.27 ERA across his 14 appearances.
As the White Sox hope to hold control atop the American League Central Division, the team’s newfound ace will need to continue to dazzle.
