Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country.
The Jacksonville Jaguars just can’t seem to get past the Houston Texans.
The Jags have a 13-3 record in their last 16 regular season games, but two of those three losses came against the Texans, including Sunday’s 31-34 stunner.
“That was not the result that you hunt up each week,” head coach Liam Coen said Monday.
“You never want to lose,
but I am glad that we’re able to respond in terms of the mental toughness of the group when it’s not perfect or everything’s not going exactly according to plan, and they just keep playing their tails off.”
The Week 6 loss to Houston was a bummer, as was Jacksonville’s 10-point blown lead to Denver in Week 2. At the end of the day, though, the Jaguars have a 4-2 record going into their bye. They lead the AFC South by two games over the Texans (2-4), Indianapolis Colts (2-4), and Tennessee Titans (1-5). And it’s not fraudulent at all.
The top four teams in point differential this year are the Jaguars (+50) and the three remaining undefeated teams: the San Francisco 49ers (+67), Kansas City Chiefs (+57), and Minnesota Vikings (+45).
Jacksonville has performed like one of the best teams in the NFL — despite facing the league’s seventh-toughest schedule so far this season, per Sharp Football Analysis. They’re projected to have the single easiest schedule the rest of the way.
“To be six weeks in and to feel confident that your team’s going to respond, that we’re made of the right stuff to respond, and we have so much football left that you’re excited about,” Coen said.
“You’re excited about getting things corrected; you’re excited about being able to be in those moments again and maybe do it right or do it better the next time, as much as it hurts in the moment, in the aftermath. But I have a lot of confidence in this football team. Trevor [Lawrence] gives me so much confidence on a weekly basis as a play caller and the way that I think he’s seeing it right now and playing. I’m very excited about this football team.”
