The Philadelphia Eagles’ first team-issued 2026 regular season depth chart is here ahead of Week 1!
Since it’s compiled by the team’s media relations department, it’s not necessarily the most accurate representation of how the front office and coaching staff truly view the roster. But the media relations department certainly takes public perception into account. And, on that note, there are some interesting takeaways here.
Depth chart first and then some thoughts to follow.

THOUGHTS
- The Eagles are still refusing to reveal their backup quarterback. The Commanders won’t know what hit them if — God forbid — Jalen Hurts has to leave the game! Snark aside, it’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles handle this four quarterback situations. We know Hurts is starting. Guessing Dalton is the backup to begin the season with McKee dressing as the emergency third QB? And then Payton is inactive … unless he’s able to help out on special teams? We’ll get more clarity on this front soon.
- Not a surprise to see DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, and Makai Lemon listed as the starters at wide receiver. That was the top trio by the end of camp once both Smith and Lemon returned from hamstring injuries. With that said, it’ll be interesting to see what the snap counts looks like at receiver. One would think some combination of Hollywood Brown/Elijah Moore/Darius Cooper will rotate in to some extent. Especially with Lemon not exactly looking ready to handle all of the WR3 snaps with no questions asked from the jump. Cooper seems like a good bet to be active on game day due to his special teams contributions. Are both Brown and Moore going to be active or will one of them be scratched?
- Goedert is the starting tight end and Mundt is the primary backup. Stowers is listed third ahead of Jenkins … but the latter seems more likely to be active. If I’m projecting the Week 1 inactives, I think it might be Payton, Stowers, Micah Morris, Markel Bell (if still injured) or Willie Lampkin (if Bell is healthy), and Mac McWilliams. They’ll need one or two more inactives if they make any temporary practice squad elevations.
- Curious to learn more about the Eagles’ plan when it comes to offensive line depth. The read here is that Drew Kendall will be the top backup behind Landon Dickerson, Tyler Steen, and Cam Jurgens … not unlike how Brett Toth was the top interior depth option last year. At tackle, I think Markel Bell might be the swing option if he’s healthy (the rookie blocker finished camp with thumb/leg injuries). But maybe he’s just the backup on one side and Fred Johnson is the guy on the other?
- Maybe it’s nothing but I can’t help but notice how the Eagles usually list two players in the same spot, like they did here at QB2, in last name alphabetical order. But they didn’t do that with Jonathan Greenard, who is listed in starting contention with both Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith. It’s unclear when Greenard will be ready to play. But given what the Eagles traded to acquire him and then paid him in the form of a contract extension, one would think he’ll be starting at some point. Will be interesting to see how the Eagles distribute snaps at edge rusher.
- Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is clearly the top backup at both linebacker spots.
- I think Jonathan Jones might be the top backup at outside cornerback if there’s an injury to Quinyon Mitchell or Riq Woolen? He also has inexperience on the inside, though I’d think Michael Carter II would be the top backup to Cooper DeJean in the slot.
- Vic Fangio has insisted there’s an ongoing competition at safety but Marcus Epps didn’t play in the preseason games while Carter II did. And now Epps is clearly listed as a starter. The veteran defender could quickly lose that status and be replaced by MC2 if he falters. But, for now, Epps is starting next to Mukuba.
- Is Lemon really going to be the punt returner? I have my doubts. He only returned six punts in college (albeit for a productive 11.8 average) and then didn’t get many reps in that regard this summer. Not to mention it’s probably best to have him just focus on his offensive role, at least early on. The Eagles might opt to temporarily Britain Covey from the practice squad to handle punt returning. Or maybe they’ll actually get Moore in the mix?
