Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou Baseball
After Mizzou Baseball’s SEC Road Series Win against previously ranked Kentucky over the weekend, one of their top performers was recognized by the league.
Blaize Ward was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week — the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Ward was scorching hot at the plate all week going 8-13 (.615 AVG) with a triple and six RBI.
In Sunday’s 5-2 win over Kentucky — he reached base all five times with three hits and two HBP. He currently leads Mizzou with a .366 batting average and an even more impressive .500 batting average in SEC play. Not bad for a freshman, eh?
Can Mizzou build off of the series win at Kentucky? They have a tough midweek game vs Missouri State later tonight at Taylor Stadium, then host South Carolina Thursday through Saturday. It’s an opportunity to pick up some more SEC wins as the Gamecocks are the only team below the Tigers in the conference standings.

Picking off the Wildcats in Lexington should prove to be a monumental confidence booster for the team, which will face in-state rival Missouri State next. From there, a winnable series against South Carolina at home awaits. If Jackson’s team can use this series as a boost, they could be looking at close to 10 games over .500 by the next time they go on the road.
Credit where credit is due. This team needed a spark after a recent tough stretch.
I have combed through the top and bottom of the transfer portal, finding the 15 players who possess connections to the area and/or possess the talent that can take Mizzou to the next level. Here’s the full breakdown regarding some of the top players in the portal and why they’d be a perfect fit for Harper’s program:
Good work here from Dylan. Plenty of potential names to know for Kellie Harper and Mizzou WBB.
We’re back with more Photos of the Week! Mizzou softball took on LSU this weekend at home, and Dan and I split our coverage on Friday and Saturday. Take a look at what we came back with from the series below!
Mizzou Softball looking good in pink. Plenty of great pics on the diamond from the weekend.
From the looks of the roster, the Tigers will be in search of a complimentary scoring guard to pair with Jason Crowe, Jr. Preferrably one who can make a high percentage of threes. Then a versatile wing/combo forward who can project into the Boss spot occupied by Mark Mitchell the last few years. Then they’ll likely be on the hunt for some size, although I don’t think we’re going to see any monumental additions as the early market for bigs is crazy expensive (reports are that someone like Somto Cyril is seeking upwards of $5 million — which is estimated to be about half what Missouri might be planning for the entire roster next season).
Happy transfer portal season! Should be fun.
With the departure of Barrett, Trent Pierce is set to be the only Missouri starter to return next season.
Returning production will definitely take a hit for Mizzou heading into next season.
