Josh Thomson isn’t taking Nate Diaz’s insults lying down.
Diaz recently made an appearance on the This Past Weekend podcast, where he took aim at a number of well-known MMA personalities, including retired UFC stars Daniel Cormier and Dustin Poirier. Thomson also caught a stray, with Diaz questioning the legitimacy of his 2013 technical knockout loss to Thomson, prompting “The Punk” to issue a response on his YouTube channel.
“You were, ‘Oh well, you ran like a b*tch,’” Thomson said. “Bro, you were making
girl noises against the fence, like you said I was. You were making girl noises when I kneed you in the guts against the fence. I was touching your uterus with my knees. Every time I elbowed you in the face you were making noises, ‘Uh! Uh!’ Let’s not pretend. You guys can all turn up the volume if you guys watch the fight back.
“You didn’t know what to do then. You don’t know what to do now. You don’t want to fight me now, which is cool. But I’ll beat you, even now, whether it’s boxing—I even asked you because I heard you got offered all this money to fight in bare-knuckle and that’s the one thing I really wanted to do. Show me you’re a west coast gangster. You and I can do bare-knuckle.”
Thomson, 47, claims a second fight between he and Diaz has been discussed from time to time in the decade-plus since they stepped into the octagon, and that there was renewed interest with when Diaz was in negotiations to fight on the upcoming MVP MMA card on May 16 headlined by Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. According to Thomson, he has previously offered to rematch Diaz, face him in a boxing match instead, or even to take on Diaz’s friend Chris Avila, but all those suggestions were shot down.
Diaz is set to fight BKFC star Mike Perry at the May event, which Thomson has no issue with as he sees Perry as having a bigger name than him. However, Thomson won’t stand for Diaz accusing him of not wanting to settle the score.
“Just tell it like it is,” Thomson said. “You don’t want to fight, that’s cool. That’s cool. But it doesn’t matter whether it’s you, I thought because there was something there maybe you’d want to get it back. Maybe you had a little pride like ‘DC’ was saying, have a little pride in what you’re doing, you want to get that W back.
“Because like Joe Rogan said, shin to dome, I kicked your head off.”
“Even after the fight, his brother [Nick Diaz] came up to me—you guys watch the video—inside the cage, his brother comes up to me and pats me on the belly, ‘Great fight, man. Great fight,’” Thomson added. “His brother just recently talked about him, that I TKO’d him and the fight should have been stopped. ‘He’s my brother, I don’t want to see him take anymore damage.’ Your brother out there saving your life. No matter how much—We all have respect for you, man, but at least give some of us some credit.”
During his This Past Weekend appearance, Diaz also mocked Thomson wanting another fight, questioning why Thomson would want a rematch against someone he already beat and claiming he would never do the same. In response, Thomson pointed out that Diaz pursued a big money fight with Conor McGregor after handing McGregor his first defeat at UFC 196.
“Let’s talk real quick,” Thomson said. “‘I never beat no one and then wanted a rematch.’ Bro, you were begging Conor McGregor for a rematch. You’re like, ‘Yeah, we’ll do it again. Yeah, we’ll run it back.’ Now I get it, Conor’s a way bigger money fight than I am, but don’t say you didn’t do that. You were begging. You were on your knees. You were sucking Conor’s d*ck trying to get that rematch. Don’t pretend like you weren’t. ‘I’ll take it.’
“You were begging for that fight to begin with anyways, in the beginning, you remember that? ‘This mother*cker taking everything I ever wanted, everything I worked for.’”
Most importantly for Thomson, he wants Diaz to acknowledge that he was knocked out, fair and square—Diaz’s brother Nick even threw a towel into the cage to halt the bout, though referee Mike Beltran was already in the process of stopping it—and he expects Perry to defeat Diaz the same way.
“Bottom line is I’m the only guy that’s ever had a TKO win over him, no one else has,” Thomson said. “I think it’s going to come to an end when he fights Mike Perry. I think Mike Perry’s going to be able to finish him, and I think that whether it’s by cuts, somewhere in that line.”

FINAL THOUGHTS
That Josh Thomson win was wild at the time and has aged like fine win over the years. Shame on Nate Diaz for trying to shrug it off, though he was never out cold so I guess by Diaz rules he feels like it was a draw. Shame again they never got to run it back. And no, I have no interest in seeing that happen now.
