Mark Pope celebrates the fact that Kentucky had the most active players on NBA rosters to start the season, with 27 of them throughout the 30 NBA teams when the season tipped off on October 21st.
One of
those former Wildcats, Tyrese Maxey, is off to a prolific four-game start that has him in the company of one of the NBA’s elite scorers and assist men of this generation.
Maxey recently became the second player in NBA history to record 150+ points and 30+ assists through the first four games of a season, joining Russell Westbrook, who did it during the 2016-17 season.
That’s pretty elite company for the former Wildcat. Maxey has always been a player who looks to score, and he can also facilitate the ball.
Maxey’s performances are clearly having an impact on the 76ers, with a 4-0 start. Since his rookie season in 2020-2021, Maxey has increased his scoring average in every season. He averaged 26.3 points per game this past season, a season after averaging 25.9 points per game and being named the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year.
In his lone season with the Wildcats, Maxey averaged 14 points per game and played 34.5 minutes per game.
