There’s nothing quite like a gathering of Spurs fans.
After what has seemed like an eternity, we congregated for what has become an annual kickoff to preseason.
The Spurs Silver vs. Black Scrimmage was a stroke of community genius. It introduces fans to the roster of training camp players while pulling back the curtain a little on what a Spurs practice might entail. It also promotes fandom at the onset of the season.
This year’s game was an event to behold.
Team Black listed Harrison Ingram, Riley Minix,
Adam Flagler, Micah Potter, Lindy Waters III, Kelly Olynyk, Carter Bryant, Dylan Harper, Harrison Barnes, De’Aaron Fox, and Victor Wembanyama.
Team Silver featured David Jones Garcia, Stanley Umude, Bismack Biyombo, Jordan McLaghlin, Luke Kornet, Julian Champagnie, Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, Stephon Castle, and Devin Vassell.
De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Jeremy Sochan, Jordan McLaughlin, and Devin Vassell did not suit up.
The Spurs posted the night’s festivities with Jacob Tobey and Dan Weiss calling the game.
The game was one of the more exciting and competitive scrimmages in recent history. But in the end, fun was the name of the game. Proof positive by the Spurs postgame karaoke, hosted by Keldon and featuring Ingram, Harper, Bryant, Jones Garcia, and Minix.
Afterwards, Castle responded to the intensity of the game and how excited the team is moving forward cohesively.
The Spurs start their preseason Monday night against Guangzhou Loong Lions from the Chinese Basketball Association.
