In his pre-match press conference, Andoni Iraola said that both Dominik Szoboszlai and Víctor Muñoz “have a chance” at being ruled fit for Sunday’s match against Arsenal.
Iraola is unwilling here to give either us or Mikel Arteta any certainty, though his phrasing around the two days between now and Sunday the reason such a chance exists perhaps suggests it’s a long shot.
With no new Liverpool injuries to report following the League Cup win against Chelsea, Liverpool might be better off in the fitness
department than Arsenal. Arteta is missing Bukayo Saka and could be without Noni Madueke, who is himself returning from injury. Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice, and Christos Tzolis are all looking to return on Sunday, though Arteta is similarly reticent to confirm their fitness.
Depending on a roll of the late fitness test dice, one or both sides could be without important members of their starting XIs.
Max Dowman, who was sent off in the Gunners’ loss to Fleetwood Town midweek, saw his suspension upheld, so will be unavailable for Sunday.
