It was a little nervy towards the end, but BVB picked up another three points in the Champions League league phase, beating Real Betis 2-1 thanks to goals from Fabio Silva and Konstantinos Karetsas. A goal from Aitor Ruibal kept Betis in the game, but on balance Dortmund were the much better side and were good value for their victory.
The win and three points takes BVB up to 12th in the table, and they are only kept out of the automatic qualification spots on goal difference right now. Unfortunately,
Dortmund will face stiff competition in Arsenal and Inter Milan in their next Champions League games, so they’ve still got a lot to do to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. They kept themselves in the running with the win tonight, though.
Here are our nominations for Man of the Match in BVB’s 2-1 win against Real Betis tonight:
Konstantinos Karetsas
Karetsas came on half an hour into the game, replacing the injured Serhou Guirassy, and put in a solid shift. He worked hard off the ball and looked dangerous in and around the Betis penalty area. His winning goal sealed the deal on his nomination
Fabio Silva
Fabio Silva got the goal to give BVB the lead and provided the assist for Karetsas’s winner, but he was also very involved in everything Dortmund did going forward tonight. He linked up really well with everyone around him, and came close to adding to his tally several times too.
Jobe Bellingham
It was another strong performance from Jobe tonight, who for my money has probably been Dortmund’s best player this season. He was playing a little further forward tonight, similar to his role against Bayern Munich at the weekend, and he handled his duties with ease. The only thing that was lacking from Bellingham’s performance tonight was a goal, but some big saves from Álvaro Vallés kept him at bay.
Julian Ryerson
As always, Ryerson was up and down the right-hand side of the pitch all game long, and his crosses into the box provided a consistent threat, despite the fact that no one managed to convert one of them.
