The New York Giants passed on an opportunity to fortify their defensive line this week by not making any waiver claims, despite sitting No. 5 in the waiver claim priority. That, though, does not mean the Giants are done adding players at the position.
GM Joe Schoen said on Wednesday that the team will “probably” add another veteran player before the Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys, at least to the practice quad.
“We signed (defensive lineman) D.J. Reader, (defensive lineman) Shelby (Harris),
we traded for (defensive lineman) C.J. Okoye, we’ve got DA (defensive lineman Darius Alexander). (Defensive lineman) Bobby Jamison-Travis had a good camp,” Schoen said. “We’ve got a couple of vets on the practice squad, probably going to sign another one next week. So yeah, I feel good where we are right now. And again, we’ll continue, that’s something we’ll continue and see what opportunities are out there.”
The defensive linemen on the practice squad are veteran Josh Tupou, a 32-year-old nose tackle who played six games over the past two seasons for the Baltimore Ravens, and undrafted free agent rookie Ben Barten.
