It’s that time of the year.
Training camp is quickly coming to a close, with roster cuts looming just over the horizon and real, actual, meaningful NFL football in the form of the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Brian Schottenheimer led Dallas Cowboys.
And as with the start of every regular season, optimism is running deep.
This year optimism is so plentiful that even Field Gulls own resident optimism crusher, John P. Gilbert, is excited and expecting a postseason appearance
for the Seattle Seahawks in 2025. As JPG has done in each of the past several seasons, he spoke with Trevor Maeder of KMA Sports of Shenandoah, Iowa to talk about what he anticipates 2025 will bring for the Seahawks.
Now, it is true that the expectation for the playoffs is not solely a result of the talent the Seahawks have amassed on the coaching staff and the roster, as it is also largely a function of the schedule of opponents Seattle is slated to face this year.
Specifically, with the schedule including both the AFC South and NFC South, the Seahawks will face ten teams that finished the 2024 season under .500, and have the benefit of a second year head coach whose defense will be playing in the same system for a second year in a row. Add in an offensive coaching staff that better knows what it is doing, and the pieces are in place for the team to potentially return to the postseason for the first time since 2022 and to maybe even win a playoff game for the first time since the end of the 2019 season.
But first it’s the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.
