Since Green Bay Packers receiver Christian Watson’s return from his ACL tear, it’s been clear that the Packers want to play both Watson and Romeo Doubs as their outside receivers. Each of those two players has played at least 26 snaps per game over the last four games at outside receiver
, while a non-Watson/Doubs receiver has only cracked over 18 snaps at outside receiver once (Dontayvion Wicks in Week 10 when Doubs dropped out mid-game) during that stretch. For the most part, the outside receiver
depth chart looks like this:
- Romeo Doubs
- Christian Watson
- Dontayvion Wicks/Matthew Golden
- Dontayvion Wicks/Matthew Golden
- Malik Heath
We’ve been told the target date for slot receiver Jayden Reed’s return was around Thanksgiving, but head coach Matt LaFleur said that the team is hopeful to activate players off the injured reserve this week — with the two most notable players on the IR being both Reed (shoulder/foot) and running back MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring).
Then, on Tuesday, Reed posted a cryptic post on social media, which many believe is a hint at his possible return to the squad.
When they’ve all been on the field together and healthy, which, to be honest, hasn’t been often, the slot receiver depth chart for the Packers has looked like:
- Jayden Reed
- Dontayvion Wicks/Matthew Golden
- Dontayvion Wicks/Matthew Golden
- Malik Heath
- Savion Williams
I am working under the assumption that, at least when Reed is fully back, the Packers’ primary receiver rotation will be Doubs and Watson on the outside and Reed in the slot, with Wicks and Golden subbing in off the bench at both spots. But is that what the team should be doing at the position down the stretch of the 2025 season?
