Dianna Russini of The Athletic did some reporting on the Tennessee Titans’ head coaching search this morning. Off the top, she said that Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is a serious candidate to be the next head coach of the Titans. Nagy has ties to Titans’ GM Mike Borgonzi from their days together with the Chiefs.
Nagy is not my first choice, but it makes sense that he would be on their list. They are probably going to want someone who is an offensive mind and has been a head
coach before. Nagy checks both of those boxes. He was the head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018-2021. He went 34-31 in his tenure with the Bears and made the playoffs twice.
Russini listed several defensive coordinators that the Titans are expected to reach out to:
- Indianapolis Colts’ Lou Anarumo
- Green Bay Packers’ Jeff Hafley
- Jacksonville Jaguars’ Anthony Campanile
- Los Angeles Rams’ Chris Shula
- Houston Texans’ Matt Burke
- Los Angeles Chargers’ Jesse Minter
While I’d prefer they hire an offensive guy, I’m not opposed to the right defensive guy as long as he has a good answer for who his offensive coordinator is going to be.
It is interesting that Robert Saleh isn’t on that list. He’s been near the top of my list, but that was with the hopes that he could bring Mike McDaniel in to be his offensive coordinator. However, at this point, it is starting to sound like McDaniel might not get fired by the Miami Dolphins.
We are just three weeks away from the Titans actually being able to kick off their head coaching interviews.
