The return of LeBron James appears to be imminent.
After taking part in practice with the South Bay Lakers on Wednesday, he returned to the court with the G League side on Thursday without any lingering
issues, as reported by Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
It’s an encouraging sign for LeBron as he moves closer and closer to his season debut.
LeBron James practiced with the G League’s South Bay Lakers again Thursday and did not experience any residual effects from Wednesday’s workout, sources told ESPN, an encouraging sign after James’ first 5-on-5 play since the first round of the playoffs, more than six months ago.
McMenamin provided some other information on the practices on both Wednesday and Thursday. The initial practice on Wednesday was described, through a source, as “intense.” On Thursday, LeBron returned and was a full participant again, taking part in the 5-on-5 portion without any soreness or pain.
The Lakers return from their road trip over the weekend and are set to practice on Monday. Things appear to be trending toward LeBron taking part in that practice with the actual team. If that goes well, LeBron could, potentially, make his debut in the team’s home game against the Jazz on Tuesday.
If the debut doesn’t come then, it would almost surely come in the team’s next game, which will come after a five-day break when they go to Utah, barring there is no setback.
His return could hardly come at a better time as, after a strong start to the season, the Lakers have been trending in the wrong direction on their current road trip.
It’ll be a challenge to re-integrate LeBron, but it’s a welcome one as he looks set to begin his historic 23rd season.
