These days, the vast majority of contract negotiations are carried out by agents with extensive clout and networks. guys like Jorge Mendes and Pini Zahavi are the typical people Bayern Munich have to deal with to get things done. However, with Harry Kane it seems that a more familial touch is required.
Speaking to the media following the win over FC Köln (via @iMiaSanMia), club CEO Jan Christian Dreesen provided an update on the Kane contract saga, stating: “Harry’s agent is his brother. His father
is also helping out. We have a good relationship with them. Harry and his family feel very comfortable in Munich. Hopefully we’ll continue together beyond next season.”
It is not uncommon for family members to get involved with the contract negotiations of star players. Lionel Messi, for example, had his father Jorge Messi take care of contract talks with FC Barcelona and PSG. So even at the top of football, family can still play a role.
Bayern Munich took several measures to initially get Harry Kane to leave Spurs back in 2023, and it’s likely that the connections from back then have yet to fade. Hopefully things go well as Dreesen said, and Kane signs on for a few more years.
