While the Phillies bringing back Kyle Schwarber is obviously big news for any sort of baseball related conversation, the domination of the various news cycles so far this offseason has been by the Mets.
Taking an aggressive approach to their desire to get more athletic and better at defense, the team has thus far dismantled pieces of their core, trading away Brandon Nimmo and waving goodbye to Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz in free agency. It has been nothing short of euphoric watching the fanbase meltdown
slowly at each of the moves, hurling invective at David Stearns for having a roster building philosophy and not diverting from it thus far.
Today’s question is: what do you make of their offseason so far? There is still a lot of time left and a lot of good players that they can acquire for the 2026 season, either by spending on free agents or utilizing their solid player development system to make an impact trade or two. So casting judgement on what their ultimate finished product could be may be a bit hasty….but it’s so much fun to talk about what they have done to this point.
