Northwestern guard Phoenix Gill announced his intent to return for another year with the program on Friday night, becoming the second confirmed member of the 2026-27 Wildcats squad.
After Jake West announced his return via X minutes before, this news ensures that at least two members from last-year’s team will be coming back to play under Chris Collins.
While Gill made the decision to redshirt in his first season with the Wildcats, he entered Northwestern as a three-star prospect and the No. 4 high
school player in a talented pool of native Illinoisans. He was known in his time at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago as a guard with elite scoring prowess and high basketball IQ, which he will look to translate to the college level next year. He chose Northwestern over multiple high-major programs, including Illinois, where his father Kendall’s jersey hangs in the rafters of the State Farm Center.
