AEW served a quarterfinal matchup for the Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament as the main event of Collision (June 6, 2026). An unexpected winner emerged to face Mercedes Moné in the semifinals.
Once Mercedes Moné replaced Willow Nightingale as the wild card, her side of the tournament bracket seemed to fall into place. Mercedes beat Alex Windsor in the quarterfinals to exact revenge. Windsor won the RevPro women’s title from Mercedes in the Ultimo Moné era. It seemed to make sense that Persephone
would beat Hazuki, so Mercedes could get her win back over Persephone too. Perse won the CMLL women’s world title from Moné.
Well, that’s why they play the game, so to speak.
Persephone wrestled Hazuki on Collision, and an unexpected result emerged. The Stardom wrestler used her speed and savvy to escape a powerbomb and come back for a Codebreaker. Hazuki showed her lucha libre skills to trap Perse in La Magistral cradle for the win. Persephone is protected in defeat, because her vision was still bothered in recovery from Julia Hart’s black mist from weeks ago. Nonetheless, I did not anticipate Hazuki advancing in the bracket.
Mercedes is never one to share the spotlight, so she sent a message after the match. Hazuki exited the ring after exchanging respect with Persephone. That’s when Mercedes picked her spot to attack Persephone from behind for a crossface submission. Hazuki returned to the ring, and Mercedes retreated. Hazuki must not have been taught the lesson to never turn her back on an adversary. Once she did, Mercedes attacked her too. Hazuki had the last laugh on this evening by standing tall on a suicide dive to the CEO.
What’s your level of surprise that Hazuki beat Persephone? Did this post-match skirmish with Mercedes Moné hype you up for the Owen Hart Foundation tournament semifinal?
