Marc Cucurella has spoken publicly about his move to Real Madrid for the first time, revealing how quickly the transfer came together and why accepting the offer was an easy decision.
In an interview with El Mundo, the Spanish international explained that negotiations moved rapidly, allowing him to focus fully on his responsibilities with the national team ahead of the World Cup.
“The move to Real Madrid all happened in a day and a half or two. For me, it’s much better, much faster, no headaches.”
The left-back added that the deal was completed before Spain’s first match of the tournament, removing any distractions during a crucial period.
“Everything was done (before the first World Cup game). I was already thinking about the match and had nothing to worry about.”
Although there were multiple possibilities on the table, Cucurella admitted that Real Madrid’s interest immediately stood above the rest.
“There were different options, but when the Madrid offer came, I didn’t hesitate. I think it’s a unique opportunity.”
For the defender, joining Los Blancos represents the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition.
“Playing for Real Madrid is an honor, and not many players can say that.”
Cucurella also revealed details of his conversations with new head coach José Mourinho, who played an important role in making him feel wanted ahead of the move.
“Mourinho told me he was really looking forward to working with me, that I would adapt very well, and that Real Madrid was a great club. I’m very happy for this confidence. I can’t wait to start working with him.”
The Spain international described the transfer as the natural next step in his career, emphasizing that opportunities like this are impossible to ignore.
“Life has different stages. I’ve had to make an important decision, and I have no doubts. When you’re a kid, you dream of playing for big teams, and I think Real Madrid is one of them. It’s the team with the most Champions League titles in the world.”
Cucurella also spoke about the unique aura that surrounds Real Madrid, particularly the club’s seemingly endless ability to produce dramatic comebacks on the biggest stages.
“Real Madrid has a mystique… I don’t know how to describe it, it’s unpredictable. Very few people watching the matches can understand how Real Madrid can come back and win games when they seem to be on the ropes.”
The defender believes that mentality aligns closely with his own approach to the game, highlighting the resilience and determination that have defined his career.
“I’m a very hard-working, very determined player, someone who tries to give everything until the very last moment. I think it’s a bit of the Real Madrid spirit, that ‘until the very end’ attitude.”
