The Atlanta Braves, who lead the NL East despite themselves and their June performance, made a roster move before today’s day game versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Braves welcome back Eli White back to the active roster. Eli stepped away on Monday to handle family responsibilities and will hopefully returned with the fabled “dad power” that the Braves have been blessed with in the past.
Tyler Kinley is also away on the paternity list. The Braves are definitely leading the league in welcomed bebes this week.
José Azócar has been designated for assignment. He was able to pitch in this week with a single and a run scored over two games. In a very limited 18 plate appearances, José is sporting a .353/.389/.471 line with 138 wRC+. But he will attempt to enter the DFA cycle. Outfielder Brewer Hicklen, who per Fangraphs has an option year remaining, was not called up. The former UAB Blazer has been a part of six organizations but is posting a .297/.364/.509 line with a 127 wRC+ in Triple-A Gwinnett in 75 games. Alas, Azócar is exposed to the DFA world regardless.
