Manel Kape made everyone sweat at Friday’s official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 112.
The flyweight contender made his walk to the scale with less than two minutes remaining in the one-hour weigh-in window,
successfully registering at 126 pounds for Saturday’s main event bout with Brandon Royval.
Royval also made use of the one-pound allowance for a non-title fight, coming in at 126 pounds.
Kape’s last-minute arrival was cause for concern given his history of weight-cutting issues. The former RIZIN bantamweight champion has missed weight twice in his UFC career, both times by a considerable amount. Ahead of a fight with Ode Osbourne at UFC 265 in 2021, Kape came in three pounds over the limit and was fined 20 percent of his purse. He went on to defeat Osbourne by first-round knockout.
In January 2024, Kape again missed weight, that time by 3.5 pounds for a rematch with Matheus Nicolau. That bout was subsequently postponed, though it later failed to come to fruition a second time for undisclosed reasons.
However, as of now, Kape is on weight and his matchup with Royval is official. Currently both in the flyweight top 10, Saturday’s main event winner could find themselves in position to challenge for flyweight gold in 2026.
All 26 fighters competing at UFC Vegas 112 successfully made weight, including featherweight co-headliners Giga Chikadze and Kevin Vallejos, top 10 strawweights Amanda Lemos and Gillian Robertson, and welterweight veterans Neil Magny and Yaroslav Amosov.
Magny makes his 27th UFC appearance and is tied for the most appearances in promotional history, trailing only Donald Cerrone (38), Andrei Arlovski (42), and Jim Miller (46). On the other side, Amosov, a former Bellator champion, makes his UFC debut.
