On her latest Making Monsters podcast, Taylor Doll previews tonight’s Philadelphia Eagles vs. Chicago Bears game with two people who know both teams inside and out.
First, she’s joined by Louie DiBiase, who covers the Eagles for the Locked On Eagles podcast. Philly may be 2-0, but they start by discussing the Eagles’ issues on the offensive and defensive lines. They also talk about how well the passing game has looked with quarterback Jalen Hurts and wideouts Dontayvion Wicks and DeVonta Smith, and they aren’t
even missing A.J. Brown.
But back to the defense, the Eagles have been inconsistent in getting after the quarterback.
“They’re actually at the bottom of the league in average time to create pressure,” DiBiase said. “They’re eighth in actual pressure rate, but they’re at the bottom of the league when it comes to quick pressures. So, a lot of that pressure has been generated by the coverage.”
Their secondary had been good, and of course those coverage schemes come courtesy of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
Taylor is also joined by Chicago Bears legend and current ESPN 1000 host Tom Waddle as they break down some of the quarterback discourse from the last week. They also dive into the importance of Chicago’s rushing attack against the Eagles, and some positives Waddle saw in the defense’s performance against the Vikings.
Waddle also talked about how he thinks the Eagles would attack the Bears offense.
“I don’t really look at Vic as a guy that comes after you like Brian Flores,” Waddle said. “But if I was preparing for this Eagles team, I would expect a little bit more pressure than maybe they’re used to showing just because you’ve got an immobile older quarterback that you would try to rattle early in the game.”
