Newcastle United’s search for midfield reinforcements continues to bring up all sorts of options from across Europe following the club’s failed pursuit of Johan Manzambi and ongoing uncertainty surrounding Bruno Guimaraes’ future.
One of the latest names mentioned, and perhaps one of the biggest ones linked to Newcastle during the past 45 days, is Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. The suggestion of a potential transfer, however, comes from a Spanish pundit sharing his opinion and view of Real Madrid’s
midfield rather than a report of direct transfer talks between the clubs.
Per Defensa Central, La Media Inglesa’s Pablo Espinosa believes Real Madrid should consider selling Camavinga if Newcastle comes calling after reshaping their midfield this summer.
“We have to look at the market for Camavinga. I think €50 or €60 million in the Premier League,” Espinosa said. “They pay outrageous amounts, but many times, from Spain, we wait for someone to appear from the Premier League… We also have to be smart.”
Espinosa argued Newcastle’s recent transfer activity makes the Magpies an ideal potential buyer.
“For example, now is when Real Madrid has to take advantage of the fact that Newcastle has just lost another midfielder, an incoming. They were going to sign Manzambi, and Aston Villa just snatched him away,” Espinosa said. “Newcastle has also sold Tonali and is going to sell Bruno Guimaraes, so they’re going to have money in midfield. Now is the time to go and sell them Camavinga.”
Again, the report does not claim Newcastle has contacted Real Madrid or Camavinga over a move. Instead, it presents Espinosa’s view that Madrid should capitalize on Newcastle’s need for midfield additions to next season’s XI.
Any deal would also appear difficult given Camavinga has consistently expressed his desire to establish himself at Real Madrid, Newcastle is set to be without European competition next season, and the France international would definitely need to lower his wages in Tyneside.
As things stand, there is no indication from the report that the Magpies are actively pursuing the Frenchman, and this sounds more like a Football Manager thing that something potentially in the making.
