Greetings, BBN!
Georgia, our Top State last week, sort of took a week off, with the UGA Bulldogs on a bye week and the Rambling Wreck, Georgia Tech, easily running past Syracuse at home. Wisconsin, our Bottom
State last week, finally broke through in a massive way and ended a very long program drought: they scored points. And not just two or three points—an entire touchdown and PAT! It was a proud day for the state—actually, it wasn’t because they still lost by 14 to Oregon and are still on a six-game losing streak.
This week, the states that were shown were out West. In the heart of canyons and cowboys, where the cacti stand tall and legends of Buffalo Bill still echo on the wind, our Honorable Mention is the Beehive State of Utah, and our Top State is the Lone Star State of Texas.
Honorable Mention: Utah
Utah is home to two Big 12 schools that are both riding high after Week 9. The Utah Utes mowed down Colorado 53-7 after leading 43-0 at halftime, and the BYU Cougars continued their CFP campaign with a 41-27 road win at Iowa State that improved them to a perfect 8-0. BYU is perched atop the Big 12 standings heading into a massive four-week stretch that’ll include road trips to Texas Tech and Cincinnati, which’ll decide whether a team from the state of the Great Salt Lake gets a team in the 2025 CFP.
The Top State: Texas
It was the best week of the season yet for Texas. The Texas A&M Aggies, ranked 3rd in the country, kept that ranking and their status as the SEC’s last unbeaten team with a convincing beatdown of LSU on the road 49-25. The Texas Longhorns, with Arch Manning under center, survived a trip to Mississippi State with his three touchdowns. The Houston Cougars beat Arizona State on the road by a touchdown, Texas Tech blasted Oklahoma State 42-0, and TCU won at West Virginia. Dominance from the Lone Star State, and a strong showing that will keep their CFP campaigns going strong.
