Rutgers basketball has extended an offer to Riviera Preparatory School shooting guard Quincy Douby Jr, a four-star prospect who is the son of a Scarlet Knights legend, Quincy Douby.
Quincy Jr. is listed
as a 6-foot-3, 165-pound four-star according to the 247sports composite. The composite also lists him as the 84th best player in the nation for his class, the ninth best shooting guard, and the 15th best player in Florida. He currently holds offers from Florida State, Ole Miss, and Wake Forest amoung others.
His father had a legendary career at Rutgers, scoring 1,690 points across three seasons, which is the sixth most in program history. He was selected 19th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2006 NBA draft.
Quincy Jr. has been coming to Rutgers’ campus his entire life with his father, who officially graduated from the school in 2023. Head basketball coach Steve Pikiell has said multiple times that he will have a scholarship here, according to an article written by Brian Fonseca of NJ Advance Media. However, Quincy Sr. told his son that they would not acknowledge those early offers because he wanted his son to go out and earn it rather than just have it be because of his last name.
Quincy Jr. has done just that, becoming a star so far in his three years of high school. This led to Pikiell giving Quincy Sr. a call on Friday to formally extend an offer to his son and let him know that he believes Quincy Jr. can be a valuable asset to the team.
While telling his son that he is not going to pick where he goes to school, he admitted that he is really grateful Rutgers extended their offer.
Pikiell and Co. intend to visit Quincy Jr. in Florida and watch him in the state playoffs later this month. According to the article by Fonseca, Quincy Sr. himself admitted that his son is a much more polished product at this current stage in his high school career. It would be the first time that Pikiell would see him play a game in person; however, he has seen him shoot around in the gym during his several previous trips to Rutgers.
Basketball offering Quincy Jr. isn’t the only alumni connection Rutgers athletics has used this week, as football landed 2026 OL Ian Asaeli Ngaue-Stephenson earlier in the week. Ian is the son of former Knights OL Cameron Stephenson. Pikiell will look to use the family connection in his attempt to secure Quincy Jr’s commitment to his program, much like football did for Stephenson.
