Early in the fourth quarter, Seahawks kicker Jason Meyers was good from 54 yards out to break a tie with the Steelers and give Seattle a 17-14 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Meyers booted the ball towards Steelers rookie running back who was standing just outside the end zone. The ball bounced on the turf and as Johnson jogged up to field it, the ball bounced higher than expected and it went through his hands and into the end zone.
Instead of running after the ball to cover it up, Johnson watched it roll
near the back boundary line as a flurry of Seahawks sprinted in pursuit. Seattle running back George Holani ended up diving on the ball first and the nearby official raised his arms to signal a touchdown.
Thanks to Johnson and an apparent misunderstanding of the rules around the dynamic kickoff structure, the Seahawks swiftly built a 10-point lead on the Steelers with a little under 13 minutes remaining in regulation!
