Ismaël Saibari could hardly have asked for a better way to begin his competitive career with Bayern Munich.
The attacker made his official debut for Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Borussia Dortmund, helping Vincent Kompany’s side claim an early trophy while also experiencing one of the biggest fixtures in German football. For Saibari, the occasion was made even more special by the fact that playing in Der Klassiker had been a personal ambition.
Reflecting on the victory and
his debut, Saibari made it clear just how much the moment meant to him.
“It’s always nice to win titles – and more so if it’s your first game. It was really nice to make my official debut. I think it went really well, and now I can say I’ve played in Der Klassiker. It was a goal of mine to play in one,” Saibari told Bundesliga.com (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
There is plenty to like about that mindset. Saibari did not simply make his competitive debut for Bayern Munich, he immediately found himself involved in a trophy-winning performance against Dortmund.
Winning the Supercup is an excellent way to start life at a new club, but the bigger takeaway could be the confidence Saibari can take from the experience. He has now played in a major German rivalry, lifted silverware, and shown that he can handle the pressure that comes with wearing the Bayern Munich shirt.
For a player beginning a new chapter, it is difficult to imagine a much better introduction.
